What happened
President Donald Trump participated in the swearing-in of Pam Bondi as Attorney General of the United States, carried on the White House channel (uploaded Feb. 6, 2025). The President introduced Bondi as a career prosecutor for nearly 20 years and, in his words, one of the toughest, smartest, and most successful attorneys general in Florida’s history, predicting she would go down as one of the most successful attorneys general the country has ever had. He credited her Florida record, as he stated it, with locking up drug dealers, gang members, and human traffickers and waging war on the pill mills.
Justice Clarence Thomas administered the oath. The President thanked Thomas and his wife for attending, recalling an event of some 5,000 people in his largest ballroom where introducing Thomas had drawn the night’s loudest applause - the moment, he said, that he realized how popular and respected the Justice was.
Why it matters
The ceremony installs the Attorney General whose Justice Department carries the administration’s crime, immigration-enforcement, and fraud files: the President’s own framing of her Florida record, stated at her swearing-in, is the standard this chronicle checks her tenure against.
