What happened
President Donald Trump addressed the March for Life by video from the Oval Office on Jan. 24, 2025, carried on the White House channel. He noted that he was, in his words, proud to be the first president ever to have joined the march in person, and credited the marchers’ five decades of work with the Supreme Court decision that, as he put it, returned the abortion issue to the state legislatures and to the people where it belongs.
He said his administration would again stand proudly for families and for life, would protect what he called the historic gains made, and would support adoption and foster care. He said a reformed Department of Justice would investigate attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers, and announced the pardons at the center of the address: “I’m releasing the Christians and pro-life activists who were persecuted by the Biden regime for praying and living out their faith. I just signed that document, and they’re being released,” as he stated it — naming Paula Harlow, sentenced, he said, to two years in prison after praying outside a clinic.
Why it matters
The address is the term’s first life-policy statement from the President: the pardon announcement made to the movement’s own gathering, on its own day, fixes the administration’s opening position in a video the march screened to the crowd Vice President Vance addressed in person the same day.
