What happened

The swearing-in ceremony of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States took place in the Capitol Rotunda on Jan. 20, 2025, broadcast in full on the White House channel (uploaded Jan. 21), with the Armed Forces Chorus performing and the congressional leadership and former presidents in attendance, as aired. Justice Brett Kavanaugh administered the vice presidential oath to JD Vance, and Chief Justice John Roberts administered the presidential oath to President Trump.

In his inaugural address, the President declared: “The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,” and pledged that during every single day of the administration he would, very simply, put America first, as he stated the program. “From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” he said, describing his election as a mandate to reverse what he called a horrible betrayal and to restore the integrity, competency, and loyalty of America’s government.
