Press Secretary chair sits empty after the successor’s five-day tenure
Official: White House Press Office (Press Secretary — vacant) · Verdict: Setback · Category: Elections & Governance
The White House Press Secretary’s podium is vacant, with no successor named as of October 18, 2026. Karoline Leavitt departed the role on August 27, 2026. Her announced successor, Katie Zacharia — announced October 9, holding her first briefing on October 13 — was out by October 16–17, after roughly five days in the job, and the @PressSec account, held by the Press Office, has been dormant since October 7. For an administration built on message discipline, an empty podium and a five-day tenure are a staffing and communications setback on their face.

Note on sourcing: Zacharia’s exit rests on two October 16 reports (CNN and the New York Post, per the audit); one research cluster did not catch the exit, so this entry is flagged for a direct check before publication.
White House claims its diesel deal is delivering lower prices for truckers and farmers
Official: Donald J. Trump, President · Verdict: Win · Category: Economy, Tariffs & Trade
The White House’s October 11 weekly briefing, covering October 5–11, claimed the administration’s diesel deal is delivering lower diesel costs for truckers and farmers, stating that truckers save more than $100 per fill-up. The deal itself had been announced in a breaking White House send on October 9, which said millions of tons of diesel were on the way and prices were coming down. The same October 11 briefing claimed 3,100 shipyard jobs heading to Maryland and $31.3 billion in new investment. The savings and jobs figures are the White House’s, recorded here as its claims.
