Rubio's National Security Advisor Role Made Permanent
Marco Rubio’s second job became his standing one on September 22, 2026. President Trump signed Rubio’s commission as National Security Advisor that day, making permanent the arrangement under which the Secretary of State had also run the National Security Council in an acting capacity since May 1, 2025 (see the May 1, 2025 entry). A White House spokesperson confirmed the signing to the Washington Examiner, and USA Today and Newsmax/The Hill reported it the same day.
The permanence formalized the most concentrated foreign-policy structure in the modern presidency: one official holding both the State Department and the National Security Advisor’s office as confirmed standing roles — a combination held before only by Henry Kissinger. This site’s scoreboard recorded the permanence as a Win in its week-ending-September-26, 2026 entry.
