Lance Schroyer's ICE Director Nomination Withdrawn

The nomination of Lance Schroyer to be Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was withdrawn on September 17, 2026. Schroyer had been nominated on June 27, 2026, but never received a hearing — the nomination stalled in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee — and the withdrawal left the directorship unfilled.

ICE has had no Senate-confirmed director since the Obama era. David Venturella, acting director since June 1, 2026 (see the June 1, 2026 entry), continued to lead the agency’s enforcement mission in the acting role after the withdrawal.
