Todd Lyons's Tenure as Acting ICE Director Ends

Todd Lyons’s tenure as acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ended on May 31, 2026. Lyons had served as acting director since March 2025 — fourteen months leading the agency at the center of the administration’s deportation operation without Senate confirmation.

Career ICE official David Venturella took over as acting director on June 1, 2026 (see the June 1, 2026 entry). The directorship itself remained unfilled by a confirmed nominee: ICE has had no Senate-confirmed director since the Obama era, a standing fact this chronicle’s scoreboard tracks.
