Kevin Warsh Confirmed as Chair of the Federal Reserve

Senate vote: 54–45

Kevin Warsh was confirmed as Chair of the Federal Reserve on May 13, 2026 (54–45) and took office on May 22. His predecessor, Jerome Powell, remains a member of the Board of Governors — an unusual arrangement that set up the defining tension of Warsh’s early tenure: a President publicly demanding rate cuts and a Chair who, in September 2026, raised them instead (see the September 16, 2026 entry).
