Markwayne Mullin Sworn In as Secretary of Homeland Security

Senate vote: 54–45

Markwayne Mullin was confirmed by the Senate on March 23, 2026 (54–45) and sworn in as Secretary of Homeland Security on March 24, succeeding Kristi Noem. The President had announced the change with a later effective date; the confirmation and swearing-in set the actual handover, and the mission at DHS — border enforcement and the deportation operation — passed to Mullin on this date.
