Christopher Raia Becomes FBI Co-Deputy Director
Christopher Raia became a co-deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on January 12, 2026. He joined the deputy’s office nine days after Dan Bongino’s tenure as deputy director ended on January 3, 2026 (see the January 3, 2026 entry), serving alongside Andrew Bailey in a two-deputy arrangement under Director Kash Patel.
The arrangement lasted until the fall of 2026: Bailey resigned on September 28, 2026 and was out on October 2, 2026 (see the October 2, 2026 entry), leaving Raia as the Bureau’s sole deputy director — the continuity figure in an office that held three configurations in ten months.
