Sean Cairncross Confirmed as National Cyber Director

Sean Cairncross was confirmed by the Senate as National Cyber Director on August 2, 2025.

The mission that started here is the cyber portfolio this chronicle tracks: Cairncross runs the Office of the National Cyber Director, whose signature initiative in this site’s research files is Project Watershed 250, launched August 31, 2026. His remit has since expanded into the administration’s AI structure — co-leading the super-intelligence accord working group with Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton and co-managing the Commerce Department’s CAISSI AI-testing unit with OSTP Director Michael Kratsios.
