Brendan Carr Designated Chairman of the FCC

Brendan Carr became Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission on January 20, 2025, designated by presidential order on Inauguration Day. Carr was already a sitting commissioner — he has served on the Commission since 2017 — so the chairmanship took effect by designation rather than by a new Senate confirmation, and there is no confirmation vote to record for this entry.

The mission that started here is the communications-regulation program this chronicle tracks under the Elections & Governance hub: the FCC run in public, through its monthly Open Meetings carried in full, with Carr himself one of the administration’s most direct X-native voices (@BrendanCarrFCC).
