What happened

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth held a full press gaggle at the Jungle Operations Training Course in Panama, published by the Department of War on August 13, 2026, during the Secretary’s Panama visit. The visit also included his remarks to the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition conference in Panama City on August 12, paged separately on this site, and department uploads of the Secretary coining service members at the Jungle Operations Center and attending a PANAMAX flyover and military demonstration on the same trip.

Why it matters

A press gaggle at a jungle-warfare training site, in the middle of a counter-cartel trip, is the Secretary answering questions in the operational setting itself rather than at the Pentagon — the on-the-record counterpart to the conference remarks that anchored the visit.
