Dr. Oz Exposes DME Fraud in South Florida

What happened

In a short CMS video published July 20, 2026, Dr. Oz speaks from South Florida, which he says has twice as many durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers as McDonald’s restaurants. Many of those companies, Oz says, are not real businesses at all — insiders call them rip-off operations — with no inventory, no storefronts, and no patients. Instead, he says, they steal seniors’ Medicare numbers and bill for hospital beds, wheelchairs, and oxygen tanks that are never shipped, and by the time Medicare detects the fraud, millions of dollars have already been wired overseas.

Oz says opening one of these phantom DME companies is often easier than opening a bank account, which is why he argues working with banks is critical: follow the money and you stop the fraud. He states that, under the Vice President’s leadership, the White House Fraud Task Force imposed a national moratorium on new DME suppliers to give the CMS team room to pursue the corruption.

Why it matters

DME is one of the oldest and most documented fraud vectors in Medicare, and a national enrollment moratorium is a concrete, checkable policy step. The video puts the Administrator personally on location making the case, in the same on-camera style as the “War on Fraud” film.

Scoreboard watch

Candidate item: the DME supplier moratorium Oz describes is an administration action with measurable follow-through — supplier counts, billing volumes, and prosecutions in South Florida are the figures the scoreboard can check as they are reported.
