What happened

Ambassador Sergio Gor addressed the IX U.S.–India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., on June 30, 2026, in a speech carried by ANI. His headline announcement concerned the Quad: “I want to make an announcement here today,” he said. “One of the things that we’re actually looking to do is in about two weeks, all four of our foreign ministers will be in the Philippines, and we’ll look forward to having a Quad meeting on the sidelines of the Philippines,” as ANI reported his remarks. He added that a ministerial meeting in Australia would follow, and ultimately a leaders’ summit the partners were working to schedule, which would include President Trump coming to India.

On the trade agreement, Gor said the two sides were close: “We’re this close to getting another big deal done with India, and we’re looking forward to bringing that across the finish line. The United States wants to work hand-in-hand with India. India’s rise is here, India has arrived, we recognize that, we want to partner with India,” as ANI reported. Addressing the American investors in the room, he described the questions companies put to him — “Is it safe to invest in India? Will our IP be protected here? Or will the laws change next month?” — and his answer: “The United States trusts India, we work with India, and we look forward to identifying those next opportunities,” according to reports of the keynote. He also noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had visited India in May, was already planning a second visit before the end of the year.
