What happened
In a CMS video published June 25, 2026, Dr. Oz presents cases from the 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown under the declaration, “This is a war on fraud, the likes of which you have never seen.” The video describes a physician who, it says, falsely cleared a child’s test images — the child died a month later — while the company involved billed more than $90 million. It also describes a seller of thumbnail-sized skin substitutes whom Oz says did a million dollars of business per patient and bought a $594,000 Ferrari with what he calls U.S. taxpayer dollars.
On skin substitutes, Oz states that spending grew from less than a quarter-billion dollars in 2019 to almost $15 billion last year, and that when CMS changed the price to what he describes as the proportional cost in Europe, removing what he calls the bribery element, appropriate use followed.
Why it matters
The annual national takedown is the Justice Department and HHS’s largest recurring fraud enforcement announcement, and CMS under Oz is presenting it as part of his “war on fraud” rather than a routine yearly action. The skin-substitute pricing claim is also a specific, checkable assertion about how a CMS payment change altered billing behavior.
Scoreboard watch
Candidate item: the takedown’s stated figures — cases charged, dollars billed, and the skin-substitute spending trend Oz cites — belong to the fraud-crackdown record the scoreboard tracks as outcomes are adjudicated.
