What happened

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Dan Caine held a press briefing at the Pentagon on May 5, 2026, published by the Department of War as a briefing on Operation Epic Fury. It is the later of two Epic Fury briefings the pair gave at the Pentagon that spring, following their April 24, 2026 briefing.

Why it matters

The Hegseth-Caine Pentagon briefings are the War Department’s own running account of Operation Epic Fury, delivered jointly by the civilian secretary and the nation’s senior military officer. This May 5 briefing is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub with its April counterpart.
