What happened
Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies on the department’s fiscal year 2027 budget priorities, in a hearing the subcommittee’s chairman opened by welcoming the Secretary and noting his first year leading the department, as the hearing transcript records. The House Appropriations Committee published the full hearing (EventID 119192); the PBS NewsHour live carry of the same hearing is recorded in this site’s index as an alternate source.
Why it matters
The second budget cycle of Burgum’s tenure: the appropriations subcommittee hearing is where the fiscal year 2027 request meets the panel that writes Interior’s funding bill, one year into the energy and permitting program he laid out at his confirmation.
Scoreboard watch
The fiscal year 2027 budget testimony is recorded here as the Secretary stated it, to be checked against the department’s enacted funding and subsequent record.
