What happened
President Donald Trump took questions at Joint Base Andrews on March 13, 2026. On Iran, he said the campaign was “going very well” with “very good control” militarily, and defined the end state in his own terms: Iran’s navy and air force were gone, it had “no radar” and “no anti-aircraft weapons,” and “just about everything is gone,” as he stated it. Asked what unconditional surrender meant to him, he said it meant the United States was “in a position of dominance that nobody’s ever seen before.” He would not give a timeline: “It’ll be as long as it’s necessary,” adding “we’re way ahead of schedule.”
On prices, he told voters concerned about gasoline that “as soon as that’s over are going to come tumbling down along with everything else,” because “we had to end the nuclear threat.” He confirmed he had spoken with Chinese President Xi about the war and other matters, and said he spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu regularly while allowing their objectives “might be a little different.” On Mexico, he said President Sheinbaum “should not have refused my help” against the cartels. Domestically, he pressed the Save America Act — “voter ID,” “proof of citizenship,” no men in women’s sports and an end to “the mail-in ballot nonsense” — calling it the most popular bill he had been involved in.
Why it matters
This gaggle states the President’s day-13 framing of the war — dominance achieved, duration open-ended, and energy prices promised to fall on its conclusion — alongside his continuing push to move the Save America Act through the Senate. It is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.
Scoreboard watch
The President’s statements that the operation is “way ahead of schedule” and that gasoline prices will see “a very big decrease” once it ends, all as stated by the President, are recorded here for the weekly scoreboard.
