What happened

President Donald Trump took questions at Joint Base Andrews on March 11, 2026, returning from his Ohio and Kentucky trip. “Iran is being absolutely decimated,” he said, describing the war as “prosecuted as well as anybody has ever seen.” Asked about a reported Iranian revenge plot in California, he said it was being investigated and that of possible sleeper cells, “we know where most of them are. We’ve got our eye on all of them,” putting the number at “a dozen,” as he stated it, and attributing their entry to the previous administration’s border policies.

On oil, he said the Strategic Petroleum Reserve would be tapped “very quickly and then we’ll fill it up,” recalling a $25-a-barrel refill deal he said Democrats had turned down. On the endgame, he said Iran had “no navy,” “no air force” and no air defenses, and drew the line he was holding: “we could hit sections of Tehran and other places… we could take apart their electric capacity within one hour and it would take them 25 years to rebuild it. So ideally we’re not going to be doing that.”

Why it matters

In under four minutes this gaggle carries the day’s three live levers — the reserve tap on prices, the sleeper-cell watch at home, and the withheld power-grid strike as the war’s escalation ceiling. It is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.

Scoreboard watch
