What happened

President Donald Trump took questions before departing the White House on March 11, 2026, day 11 of the Iran campaign by his count. “Our military is the best. It’s the most powerful in the world and they’re hitting them very hard,” he said, stating that Iran had lost its navy, air force, radar and leadership. On the Hormuz mine threat he put the tally at “boat number 60” — later “59 mine boats” — of Iranian mine ships destroyed, as he stated the figures. Asked whether he took responsibility for a reported U.S. strike on a school in Iran, he said he did not know about the report and did not answer the responsibility question directly.

On Spain, he said it was “not cooperating at all… very bad to NATO,” and “we may cut off trade with Spain.” On the Save America Act, pressed on the Senate leader’s whip count, he answered, “He’s got to be a leader… It’s the most popular bill I’ve ever seen put before Congress,” restating its voter ID, citizenship, women’s sports and mail-ballot provisions. He praised the new Brownsville, Texas refinery — in answer to a second questioner, “the first oil refining in 50 years,” as the questioner framed it — saying it “would not have happened under a different president,” and disputed a reporter on the 2020 election: “I think it was rigged,” he said.

Why it matters

This departure gaggle is where the Spain trade threat enters the record, alongside the day-11 mine-boat tally and the President’s public pressure on his own Senate leader over the Save America Act. It is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.
