What happened

President Donald Trump addressed Republican members of Congress at their issues conference in Doral, Florida on March 9, 2026, introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson, who framed the first year of the administration as “promises made, promises kept” and pointed to the week’s work — the Ratepayer Protection Pledge signing and the college-sports roundtable — as examples of the President’s pace.

The President ran the record he wanted the conference to carry into the midterms: Trump Accounts, under which, as he stated it, a young child could turn 18 or 21 with “$100,000 in the bank”; 100 percent expensing and bonus depreciation on new equipment, factory construction, and investments; what he called the largest regulation cuts in American history; expanded American oil, natural gas, and “clean, beautiful coal” production; and prices coming down after, in his telling, the prior administration created the affordability problem. His State of the Union address, he said, should be the conference’s road map for the year, starting with lowering the cost of living.

The close was a single legislative demand. Of the Save America Act — voter ID, proof of citizenship, no men in women’s sports, and an end to mail-in ballot practices, as he listed its elements — the President said: “I’m willing to just sort of say I’m not going to sign anything until this is approved.” He told the members the act would “guarantee the midterms” if passed and that the public demand he hears everywhere is “Save America Act. We want the Save America Act, sir.”

Why it matters

This is the President setting the House Republican conference’s 2026 agenda in his own words — the economic record he wants campaigned on, and the election bill he elevated above every other measure, with his signature as the leverage. It is recorded on the Elections & Governance hub.

Scoreboard watch

The President’s pledge, as stated at the conference, to sign nothing until the Save America Act is approved — and his prediction that passing it guarantees the midterms — are recorded here as candidate items for the weekly scoreboard. The scoreboard entry itself remains review-gated.
