What happened
Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Sara Carter delivered the full United States National Statement at the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in a session the ONDCP posted on March 9, 2026. In the office’s own summary of the address, Carter told the assembled delegations about the President’s commitment to ending the global narcotrafficking regime: “We honor the lost, demand justice, and fight on,” as the ONDCP described the statement. The address is the formal U.S. position statement to the UN’s drug-policy body, delivered by the nation’s drug czar in person.
Why it matters
The national statement is where the administration’s domestic drug posture becomes its international one: the supply-chain and cartel arguments Carter makes at home, stated to the governments whose cooperation the strategy requires. It is also her highest-profile multilateral appearance since her January 6, 2026 confirmation — the first woman confirmed to lead the ONDCP, by a 52–48 Senate vote recorded in this site’s chronicle.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: the commitments in the U.S. National Statement of March 9, 2026, as delivered by Director Carter, to be checked against the administration’s international drug-control record.
