What happened

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth spoke at the Americas Counter Cartel Conference at U.S. Southern Command in Miami, Florida, on March 5, 2026, in a live session published by the Department of War running just over two hours and eighteen minutes. The conference appearance is distinct from his August 12, 2026 remarks at the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition Conference, paged separately on this site.

Why it matters

A Secretary of War address to a hemisphere-wide counter-cartel conference at SOUTHCOM headquarters puts the department’s counter-cartel mission on the record before the partner-nation audience the command works with — part of Hegseth’s recurring counter-cartel file in 2026.

Scoreboard watch

The conference address is recorded here as the department’s stated account at the time, to be checked against the subsequent counter-cartel record.
