What happened
President Donald Trump delivered remarks on energy at the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas on February 27, 2026, at what he called “one of the largest energy exports anywhere in the world,” declaring that his administration was “cementing America’s status as the number one energy superpower by far, anywhere on earth.”
His account of the turnaround, as he stated it: on day one he declared a national energy emergency, ended the prior administration’s export ban and lease restrictions, and told Texas energy workers to “drill, baby, drill.” Since his inauguration, he said, U.S. oil production was up by 600,000 barrels a day, natural gas production was at an all-time record high, and gasoline was “down to just less than $2.30” at the port, with $1.99 seen in Iowa and $1.85 at another stop. Of Venezuela — a tanker of its crude sat at his left as he spoke — he said the United States had so far received 80 million barrels of oil under the new partnership, to be refined in Texas and exported worldwide, “great for Venezuela, it’s great for us.”
Port asset manager Jesse Robinson spoke to the federal investment in the port, and Texas worker Kevin Rhodes described what no tax on overtime meant for his family. The President ranged across the wider record he campaigns on — core inflation at 1.7 percent over the last three months of 2025, eggs down 60 percent, more than $18 trillion in investment commitments, 53 stock-market record highs, and the retirement-savings match of up to $1,000 a year for workers without an employer match that he had announced in the State of the Union — with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Texas Governor Greg Abbott among those present, as the broadcast shows.
Why it matters
The Corpus Christi remarks are the President’s fullest energy-address of early 2026 — the emergency declaration, the production and price figures, and the Venezuela oil partnership presented at the port that embodies all three. It is recorded on the Energy & Permitting hub.
Scoreboard watch
The figures as stated by the President — oil production up 600,000 barrels a day, 80 million barrels received from Venezuela, and gasoline prices as he cited them — plus the up-to-$1,000 retirement match announced in the State of the Union and repeated here, are recorded as candidate items for the weekly scoreboard. The scoreboard entry itself remains review-gated.
