What happened
President Donald Trump addressed soldiers and military families at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on February 13, 2026, introduced by First Lady Melania Trump, who marked Valentine’s Day by recalling 250 years of soldiers’ love letters as “the harmony of love of country and love of family.”
The President’s centerpiece was the troops’ money, as he told it: tariff revenue had funded a payment to service members — “they said we can do $1,775. I said that’s good. They put the number. I said if we add one more dollar it’s $1776. I said add a dollar! Did everybody get $1776?” On the post itself: “We will also be investing over a billion to improve on-base housing and a lot more than that at Fort Bragg… We are also going to spend billions of dollars on improving here and around the area,” which he tied to the One Big Beautiful Bill — “it encompasses all four years of the term.”
He praised the force in the terms he uses for it — “now we have a real force… You see that with what we did in Iran with the B2 bombers. A lot of you were involved with that. What we did recently in Venezuela, nobody saw anything like that” — and closed on the investment ledger he campaigns on: “$18 trillion being invested… in 11 months,” against, as he stated it, less than a trillion in the prior four years, and the Saudi King’s verdict that a country thought “finished” a year and a half earlier was now “the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
Why it matters
The Fort Bragg remarks are the military-families half of the tariff-dividend story — the $1,776 payment and the housing money presented to the people receiving them, at the Army’s largest post — and the President’s fullest early-2026 statement of the peace-through-strength record to a service audience. It is recorded on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.
