What happened
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed members of the media at the White House on February 10, 2026. She opened with the Guthrie case: she and the President had been reviewing newly released FBI surveillance footage, and “the president encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of this suspect to please call the FBI,” who were assisting the state and local authorities leading the investigation.
Her week preview set up the two actions paged later in this run: a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the next day; an East Room event touting “clean, beautiful coal”; and, on Thursday, the formal rescission of the 2009 endangerment finding with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin — “the largest deregulatory action in American history,” saving, as she stated it, $1.3 trillion, with EPA-projected average per-vehicle savings of more than $2,400. She also previewed the President and First Lady’s Friday trip to Fort Bragg to meet the special forces behind Operation Absolute Resolve in Venezuela, and framed the tax season as “the biggest tax refund season ever” off the middle-class tax cut.
She closed by listing the wins she said the room had not asked about: the Dow shattering 50,000 for the first time, a federal appeals court upholding the administration’s detention policy, the murder rate at a 125-year low, median rents at a four-year low after six straight monthly declines, mortgage affordability at a four-year high, and “an unprecedented ninth straight month” of zero illegal border crossings — all as she stated them. Asked about Secretary Lutnick, she said he “remains a very important member of President Trump’s team and the president fully supports the secretary.”
Why it matters
This briefing is the program note for deregulation week — the coal and endangerment-finding actions were announced here with their headline figures two days before they happened — and its closing list is the administration’s February scoreboard in miniature. It is recorded on the Economy, Tariffs & Trade hub.
Scoreboard watch
Leavitt’s figures as stated at the briefing — $1.3 trillion in deregulation savings, more than $2,400 per vehicle, Dow 50,000, and the ninth straight month of zero border crossings — are recorded here as candidate items for the weekly scoreboard. The scoreboard entry itself remains review-gated.
