What happened
President Donald Trump gaggled with the press before departing the White House on February 6, 2026. He led with the market: “As you probably saw today, the stock market, the Dow just hit 50,000, three years ahead of schedule. We said probably couldn’t be done in the 4-year period. We did it in one year.”
On crime, he said murders and crime were down to “the lowest point in 125 years, the year 1900.” Asked about the SAVE Act and the standing filibuster, he said, “I’d love to use the filibuster. The SAVE Act is very important — voter ID… no mail-in voting and you have to have proof of citizenship. Everybody wants it,” citing support figures as he stated them. On falling rents and prices, he credited “massive price reductions” — energy way down, gasoline at $1.99 a gallon and $1.85 in Iowa the previous week, as he put it — and closed where he began: “to me the big news: 50,000, the Dow hit” in his first year.
Why it matters
A two-minute departure gaggle that carries the day’s full message stack — the Dow milestone, the crime figures, and the SAVE Act push that he would repeat to the Rome, Georgia crowd two weeks later. It is recorded on the Elections & Governance hub.
Scoreboard watch
The President’s figures as stated here — Dow 50,000, murders at their lowest since 1900, and gasoline at $1.85–$1.99 — are recorded here as candidate items for the weekly scoreboard. The scoreboard entry itself remains review-gated.
