What happened
President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington on January 28, 2026, marking what he called “a thrilling new milestone for America: the first generation of Trump account children.” “For the first time ever, we’re going to give every newborn American child a financial stake in the future,” he said — a head start in life and “a fair shot at the American dream.”
The mechanics as the President stated them: each newborn receives $1,000, privately invested — he named Nvidia and Microsoft among the companies such accounts could own — “not dependent on government, independent from government.” Over the next 15 years, he said, the program would “put three to four trillion dollars of wealth into the hands of young Americans who otherwise would have really started out with nothing,” and he predicted that “decades from now, I believe the Trump accounts will be remembered as one of the most transformative policy innovations of all time.” He credited Michael Dell with partnering to bring the private sector to bear, called Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to the stage, and noted singer Nicki Minaj among the supporters present. Parents, he said, will be able to activate their children’s accounts on July 4th of this year.
Why it matters
Trump Accounts are a signature domestic-policy creation of this administration, administered through the Treasury Department under Secretary Bessent. The program’s dated activation point — July 4, 2026, as stated by the President — and its per-child $1,000 figure are concrete, checkable commitments in the record this site tracks.
Scoreboard watch
This is a candidate item for the weekly scoreboard: a program launch with named figures ($1,000 per newborn; $3–4 trillion over 15 years as projected by the President) and a stated activation date of July 4, 2026. The scoreboard will check activation and enrollment against those figures.
