What happened

President Donald Trump presided over the official formation of the Board of Peace in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026, introduced as the body’s chairman. “This board has the chance to be one of the most consequential bodies ever created, and it’s my enormous honor to serve as its chairman,” he said, crediting Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner with the work behind it. The President reviewed the Gaza plan he said the United Nations Security Council had unanimously adopted the previous October, said the ceasefire had been maintained and all 20 remaining living hostages released, and warned Hamas that if it does not give up its weapons “it’s going to be the end of them.”

To close the ceremony, the President signed and ratified the Board of Peace Charter alongside Shaikh Isa of Bahrain and Foreign Minister Bourita of Morocco. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt then announced from the podium: “The charter is now in full force, and the Board of Peace is now an official international organization,” with signing ceremonies for the other assembled leaders — beginning with the President of Argentina and the Prime Minister of Armenia — following on stage.

Why it matters

The Board of Peace is the administration’s new standing vehicle for the Gaza settlement and, as the President framed it, for conflicts beyond — stood up here as a chartered international organization with the President himself as chairman, and filed on this site’s Foreign Policy & Defense hub as the anchor document of that effort.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard candidate: a signing — the Board of Peace Charter ratified and in full force as announced at the ceremony, with the Gaza phase-one claims (ceasefire maintained, 20 living hostages released, record humanitarian aid) stated by the President on the record. Flagged for the scoreboard editor; the entry itself stays review-gated.
