What happened
President Donald Trump delivered a special address to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on January 21, 2026, built around what he called “the fastest and most dramatic economic turnaround in our country’s history.” He cited, as he stated them, core inflation of 1.6 percent over the past three months, projected fourth-quarter growth of 5.4 percent, 52 stock-market record highs since the election adding $9 trillion in value, and commitments for “a record-breaking $18 trillion” of investment — “closer to $20 trillion” when final numbers come out, he said. He also cited 270,000 bureaucrats removed from the federal payroll, federal spending cut by $100 billion, the monthly trade deficit slashed by 77 percent, and the July tax law’s no-tax-on-tips, overtime, and Social Security provisions.
On Greenland, the President said he had “tremendous respect for both the people of Greenland and the people of Denmark,” but argued that “no nation or group of nations is in any position to be able to secure Greenland other than the United States,” recalling that the United States held Greenland for Denmark during World War II and then, in his words, “gave Greenland back to Denmark. How stupid were we to do that?”
Why it matters
The Davos address is the administration’s year-one economic case delivered to the global business audience in person, and its Greenland passage is the fullest on-record statement of the President’s security argument — both filed here with the figures attributed to the President exactly as he stated them.
Scoreboard watch
Scoreboard candidate: the dated claims set in this address — the $18–20 trillion investment figure, the 1.6 percent core-inflation and 5.4 percent growth figures, the 77 percent monthly trade-deficit reduction, and the Greenland security ask to NATO allies. Flagged for the scoreboard editor; the entry itself stays review-gated.
