What happened

President Donald Trump addressed a World Economic Forum reception with business leaders in Davos, Switzerland, on January 21, 2026, after being thanked by the Forum’s leadership for taking the time to attend during a packed schedule. The President told the room that companies and countries are “coming over and building” in the United States at a pace never seen before, putting tariff revenue at “I’d say $600 billion worth of tariff money coming in” and “maybe more than that by next year.”

He singled out Apple CEO Tim Cook in the audience — “He’s been good for 650,” the President said, putting Apple’s investment at $650 billion — and a $10 billion plant announcement he attributed to Toyota. On crime, he said Washington, DC “took us literally 6 weeks to make it safe and eight weeks to make it really safe,” and credited the same model in Memphis and Louisiana.

Why it matters

The reception is the Davos trip’s direct pitch to the investing class — the tariff-and-reshoring argument made to the executives whose pledges make up the investment totals this site tracks — filed on the Economy, Tariffs & Trade hub with every figure attributed to the President.
