What happened

President Donald Trump took questions upon departure in Palm Beach, Florida, on January 19, 2026, after attending the college football national championship game, which he congratulated Indiana on winning. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, traveling with him, summarized the record as he stated it: “We’ve got inflation coming down. We’ve got investment going up. We’ve got taxes going down. We’ve got energy prices down.”

Asked for his message for Davos, the President said: “A year and a half ago, we were a dead country and now we have the hottest country in the world.” Asked whether his letter to Norway’s prime minister meant the Nobel Prize had influenced his thinking, he answered: “No, I don’t care about the Nobel Prize,” adding that he appreciated the woman who had wanted him to have it and that, in his view, Norway controls the prize through its board.

Why it matters

The gaggle is the eve-of-Davos marker: the President’s stated message for the World Economic Forum — the “hottest country in the world” framing he then delivered in his special address two days later — and his on-record dismissal of the Nobel question that had attached to the Greenland file.
