What happened
President Donald Trump took questions before departing the White House on January 16, 2026. On health care, he described the plan he was advancing: prescription-drug prices brought down through most-favored-nation pricing — “Whoever pays the lowest in the world, that’s what we’re going to pay” — and “the money is going to be paid directly to the people. So it goes directly, not to the companies, not to the insurance companies. It’s going to go directly to the people, and the people are going to buy their own health care. They’ll get much better health care at a much reduced [price].”
On Greenland, asked about pulling out of NATO if it did not help acquire it, he said: “We need Greenland for national security very badly. If we don’t have it, we have a big hole in national security, especially when it comes to what we’re doing in terms of the Golden Dome.” On Iran, he said he “greatly respect[s] the fact” that Iran cancelled the hanging of over 800 people who had been set to be hanged the day before.
Why it matters
The gaggle is a compact statement of three live files in the President’s own words five days before Davos: the direct-payment health plan, the Greenland national-security case tied to the Golden Dome, and the Iran hangings cancellation he publicly welcomed.
Scoreboard watch
Scoreboard watch: the direct-to-the-people health-payment design and the MFN drug-pricing claim are dated promise-record items, and the Greenland statement precedes the Davos push paged separately. Noted for the scoreboard editor; no entry is published from this page.
