What happened

President Donald Trump took questions at Joint Base Andrews on January 13, 2026, on his return from Detroit. “I’m going back to the White House now. We’re going to look at the whole situation that’s going on in Iran — really bad stuff,” he said. “The killing looks like it’s significant, but we don’t know yet for certain. I’ll know within 20 minutes… and we’ll act accordingly.” Asked for a message to Iran’s leaders, he said: “They’ve got to show humanity. They’ve got a big problem, and I hope they’re not going to be killing people.”

Domestically, the President confirmed that funding for sanctuary cities would be cut off on February 1 — “It’ll be significant,” he said — defended the proposed one-year 10 percent cap on credit-card interest against bank objections (“people that are paying 28% interest should be protected… Let the people have a break”), restated that health money should go “directly to the people” rather than through insurance companies, and pointed to the Intel arrangement as the model for his deal-making: the company “gave us” a stake for the United States, he said, and “we made tens of billions of dollars” as its stock rose, with more such deals under review.

Why it matters

The gaggle compresses a week of live files into seven minutes: Iran at a decision point the President dated to that evening, a February 1 sanctuary-city funding deadline stated on the record, and the Intel stake restated as the template for federal equity-for-help deals — each in the President’s own words, filed on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub for its lead item.
