What happened

President Donald Trump addressed the Detroit Economic Club in Detroit, Michigan, on January 13, 2026, returning to the venue where, as he recalled it, he had laid out his 2024 campaign plan “to bring jobs and factories and wealth racing back to the United States.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent attended and was thanked from the podium. Factories that were going to close, the President said, “now they are going 24 hours,” pointing to the Ford complex he had toured the same day as the auto industry’s crown jewel.

The economic claim at the center of the address, as the President stated it in the passage the White House clipped separately: “Joe Biden gave us a colossal stagflation catastrophe, but my administration has rapidly and very decisively ended that. We have quickly achieved the exact opposite of stagflation — almost no inflation and super high growth. So, we have the highest growth we’ve ever had… and we’ve only been there 11 months as of this morning.” The address ranged across his affordability and tax case, voter ID — “they should get voter ID,” he said of Michigan — and endorsements of Michigan Republicans in the room.

Why it matters

The Detroit Economic Club is the administration’s chosen stage for the manufacturing-revival argument, and this address is its fullest statement one year in: the growth-and-inflation claim set, delivered to the business audience of the auto capital on the same day as the Ford plant tour paged separately in this collection, with every figure attributed to the President as he stated it.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard watch: the address’s central claims — the highest growth ever, near-zero inflation, plants running 24 hours — are the tracked headline figures for the economy ledger, as stated by the President. Noted for the scoreboard editor; no entry is published from this page.
