What happened

President Donald Trump delivered remarks at a White House Christmas reception on December 14, 2025. He opened in mourning for three attacks: “Before we begin, however, I want to just pay my respects to the people. Unfortunately, two are no longer with us. Brown University, nine injured… likewise in Australia, as you know, that was a terrible attack — 11 dead, 29 badly wounded — and that was an antisemitic attack, obviously.” Of Syria, where three American patriots were killed, he said the attack was ISIS’s, not the Syrian government’s: “The Syrian government fought by our side. The new president fought by our side.” He added that two of the three wounded in Syria were already out of the hospital, as he stated the tolls.

The reception then turned festive: the President welcomed Donald Trump Jr. and family, and brought up U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who serves on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition and praised the administration from the podium.

Why it matters

The reception is the White House’s Christmas observance in a week marked by three attacks, and the President used its opening as the administration’s formal word of mourning for all three — Brown University, the Sydney Hanukkah attack, and the ISIS ambush in Syria. This chronicle files it on the Elections & Governance hub as the ceremonial record of the day, with the tolls as stated by the President.
