What happened
President Donald Trump and the First Lady addressed the Congressional Ball at the White House on December 11, 2025. “Hello, everybody. What a nice group of Democrats. We do, we have a lot of Democrats and we welcome you. Honestly, we do. And I think we’re going to start working together in healthcare. I really predict that,” the President said, thanking the First Lady for the Christmas decorations, which he said had drawn wonderful reviews.
Mid-remarks he brought Representative Julia Letlow to the podium to celebrate her engagement, announced that evening: “That’s a big deal. That’s bigger than — that transcends politics,” he said, and Letlow thanked him from the podium before he welcomed the members and guests to the traditional White House celebration.
Why it matters
The Congressional Ball is the presidency’s bipartisan Christmas ritual with Congress; this year’s remarks carry the President’s public prediction of cross-party work on healthcare, made to a room of the members who would have to do it. This chronicle files it on the Elections & Governance hub as the ceremonial record of the evening.
