What happened
President Donald Trump hosted a business roundtable at the White House on December 10, 2025. He opened with two announcements. “We’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela, a large tanker, very large — largest one ever seized, actually,” he said. Then: “Very excitingly for me and for the country, we’ve just launched the Trump Gold Card.” The program’s site would go live within the half hour, with all funds going to the United States government, as he stated it.
Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick gave the terms as he stated them: “$1 million” for an individual and “$2 million” for a corporation, which can then keep an employee in the United States after vetting — a $15,000 vetting fee to “make sure these people absolutely qualify to be in America” — with a path to citizenship. The President framed the corporate card as the answer to a complaint he said he had heard from Apple CEO Tim Cook and others at the table: that top foreign graduates of American colleges cannot be guaranteed the right to stay and be hired.
Why it matters
The roundtable is the public launch of the Gold Card — the administration’s paid, vetted route to residency — announced alongside a Venezuela tanker seizure that opened the administration’s pressure campaign on Caracas. This chronicle files it on the Economy, Tariffs & Trade hub; the prices and vetting terms are Secretary Lutnick’s, as stated at the table.
Scoreboard watch
Scoreboard candidate: a dated program launch with stated terms — the Trump Gold Card at $1 million individual / $2 million corporate as described by Secretary Lutnick — plus the tanker seizure as announced by the President. Flagged for the scoreboard editor; the entry itself stays review-gated.
