What happened
President Donald Trump introduced Andrea Bocelli at a White House concert on the evening of December 5, 2025, in brief remarks carried on the White House channel. He praised Bocelli as “one of the most talented men, one of the greatest voices ever,” thanked Bocelli’s wife Veronica, and recalled the singer’s performance at that morning’s FIFA World Cup draw: “what you did this morning was incredible.”
The President said he had asked Bocelli about four weeks earlier — “Andrea, we’re friends… Could you come over and sing for me that night?” — and that Bocelli had agreed. The audience, he said, was made up of almost all of the Republican senators, many House members, and the cabinet, and demand had outrun the room: “I have a lot of enemies because everybody wanted to be here tonight.” He congratulated First Lady Melania Trump on the Christmas decorations, compared Bocelli with Luciano Pavarotti — “Let’s call it a tie” — and closed with his standing line: “a year ago we were a dead country and now we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
Why it matters
The concert capped the administration’s FIFA draw day — the morning the game came to the Kennedy Center, the evening its singer came to the White House. This chronicle files the introduction on the Elections & Governance hub as part of the record of how the President uses the house itself: ceremony as governing theater, with the whole team in the room.
