What happened

President Donald Trump announced at the White House on December 2, 2025, that Michael and Susan Dell would seed Trump Accounts for 25 million American children. “In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Dells are announcing today that they are giving 25 million American children, $250 each to save and to invest in their personal Trump account,” he said — “$6,250,000,000 in total,” available to the first 25 million children aged 10 and under in zip codes where median income is $150,000 or less, as he stated the terms.

The President set the gift inside the program itself: under the tax law passed earlier in the year, the federal government will make “a one-time seed contribution of $1,000 into the tax deferred Trump accounts for every newborn US citizen,” the accounts “will track the overall stock market and will be 100 percent private property controlled by the child’s guardians,” employers will be able to contribute tax-free, and “the Trump accounts will be available starting on July 4th next year,” as he put it. Michael Dell, the Dell Technologies chairman, said the Invest America Act’s passage on July 4 had inspired the gift and that other philanthropists would join; Susan Dell said children with “a future that they can see is worth saving for” gain hope and opportunity. Investor Brad Gerstner, an early advocate of the accounts, called the day “day one” of a drumbeat leading to the 250th anniversary.

Why it matters

Trump Accounts are the administration’s signature savings program for children, and this announcement is its private-sector proof of concept: a named donor, a named sum, and eligibility terms stated at the podium. The program is administered on the Treasury side of the team this site tracks, and the July 4, 2026 availability date the President stated is a dated commitment.

Scoreboard watch

Scoreboard candidate: a funded announcement with checkable terms — $6.25 billion from the Dells covering 25 million children at $250 each under the stated zip-code and age terms, the federal $1,000 newborn seed contribution, and Trump Accounts available starting July 4, 2026, all as announced.
