What happened

President Donald Trump took questions from reporters aboard Air Force One on November 30, 2025. On Ukraine, he said talks were “going along well,” that “last month we had 27,000 people killed in that ridiculous war,” and that Ukraine had “a corruption situation going on which is not helpful,” while judging “there’s a good chance we can make a deal,” as he put it.

On Venezuela, he said the country was considered “not a very friendly country,” confirmed a reported phone call with Nicolás Maduro — “the answer is yes” — and said of how it went, “I would say it went well,” declining detail. Pressed on reporting about a second strike killing survivors of a drug-boat strike, he said of Secretary Pete Hegseth: “He said he did not order the death of those two men,” and added, “I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal… we’ll look into it.”

He defended his pardon of a former Honduran president on the ground that Hondurans had told him “it was a Biden setup,” as he characterized it. And on asylum after the National Guard shooting, he said the pause could run “a long time” with “no time limit,” saying of the countries involved, “many of them no good and they shouldn’t be in our country,” as he put it.

Why it matters

In thirteen minutes the President confirmed a head-of-state call, stated his position on the strike controversy in terms that back his Secretary while reserving his own, and set an open-ended asylum posture. Foreign policy is the portfolio of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth; this chronicle files the gaggle on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub with every characterization attributed to the President.
