What happened

President Donald Trump spoke with reporters before departing the White House on November 22, 2025, saying he was headed to Joint Base Andrews “to do some work, especially for our great Air Force,” including a fix-up of the base and an effort to reinstitute its golf courses. He said Jack Nicklaus would be the architect for two existing courses that are “in very bad shape,” and that they could be fixed up “for very little money.”

On the economy, the President said investment in the country “is bigger than ever before by a factor of two or three,” and that a lot of plants would be opening very soon, as he stated it.

Asked whether the Ukraine proposal was his final offer, he answered: “No, not — I would like to get the peace. It should have happened a long time ago.” He added that the war “should have never happened” and that his administration was “trying to get it ended one way or the other.” Asked about the arrest that day of a former Brazilian president, he said he did not know anything about it.

Why it matters

The gaggle puts the President’s negotiating posture on the record at a live moment in the Ukraine talks: the plan on the table was explicitly not his final offer. It also records a small, dated facilities commitment — the Andrews golf-course restoration with Nicklaus as designer — made on camera before departure.

Scoreboard watch
