What happened
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia at a White House dinner on the evening of November 18, 2025. The President welcomed the Crown Prince as “a true partner for peace and prosperity for our countries and for the world,” thanked the First Lady for organizing the evening, and noted the attendance of Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Princess Reema, as he introduced them. He recalled the 1945 meeting between President Franklin D. Roosevelt and King Abdul Aziz, the Crown Prince’s grandfather, eight decades earlier.
Recounting the day’s bilateral meeting, the President said Saudi Arabia had announced on his spring trip that it would invest $600 billion in the United States, and that when he asked whether it could go higher, the Crown Prince raised it — “he said, ‘I am going to up that to 1 trillion dollars,’” investing $1 trillion into the United States, as the President retold it. He also cited a Saudi purchase of nearly $142 billion in American military equipment and services, which he called the largest arms purchase in history, as he stated it.
Why it matters
The dinner closes the state-visit day that began with the arrival ceremony and the Oval Office bilateral paged alongside this one. Its record value is the President’s own summary, delivered in front of the guest, of what the day produced: a $1 trillion investment commitment and a record arms purchase, both as he stated them.
