What happened
President Donald Trump hosted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia for a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office on November 18, 2025. The President thanked the Crown Prince “because you’ve agreed to invest $600 billion into the United States, and because he’s my friend, he might make it a trillion, but I’m going to have to work on him. But we can count on $600 billion.” The Crown Prince answered, through the exchange, that Saudi Arabia would “increase that $600 billion to almost $1 trillion of investment, real investment and real opportunity,” citing agreements in technology, AI, and rare earth materials, among other areas, as he stated them.
Taking questions, the President said the F-35 jets to be sold to Saudi Arabia would be “pretty similar” to those used by Israel, as he put it. On the Abraham Accords, the Crown Prince said Saudi Arabia wants to be part of them but wants “to be sure that we secure a clear path of two-state solution,” and described a healthy discussion with the President on preparing the right situation. Asked whether a U.S.–Saudi defense agreement had been reached, the President said: “We have reached agreement on that.”
Why it matters
This Oval Office session is where the visit’s headline commitment was actually made: the move from $600 billion to almost $1 trillion happened in this exchange, on camera, a day before the investment forum paged alongside this one. The F-35 and Abraham Accords answers are likewise the visit’s clearest on-record statements on the two hardest open files in the relationship.
