What happened
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance delivered remarks at the National Veterans Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11, 2025, hosted by AMVETS as the 2025 co-host organization. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins told the audience the President’s charge to him had been, “Take care of our veterans,” and said the VA had lowered backlogs in its first nine months, as he stated the record. Vice President Vance asked Americans to thank veterans directly — buying a meal or making a call, as he put it — and introduced the President.
President Trump honored Medal of Honor recipient William Swenson and Air Force rescue pilot Dale Stovall, both present, recounting their actions as he told them, and said the VA held a 92 percent approval rating, up from 38 percent under the previous administration, as he stated the figures. He proclaimed that the country would again say “Victory Day” for World War I and World War II, and cited the renaming of the Department of Defense to the Department of War as part of restoring the military’s winning spirit, as he described it. A short White House clip of the President’s remarks (“Today, to every veteran, we say the words too often left unsaid”) is recorded in the index as an alternate source for this page.
Why it matters
The Arlington observance is the administration’s central Veterans Day record: the VA Secretary’s nine-month report, the Vice President’s ask of the public, and the President’s Victory Day proclamation, all delivered at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the same morning as the wreath laying paged alongside this one.
