What happened

President Donald Trump announced at the White House on November 6, 2025 that Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk — “the two world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers,” as he described them — had agreed to offer their most popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, Zepbound and Wegovy (often called Ozempic), at drastic discounts under his most-favored-nation drug pricing policy. He was joined by Lilly CEO David Ricks and Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar, and by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary Howard Lutnick, and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, as he introduced them.

The President said the agreements would slash the cost “from $1,350 a month to ultimately $250 a month,” reduce the monthly cost of Zepbound from $1,080 to $346, as he stated the figures, and that Medicare and Medicaid would “finally cover the cost of these weight loss drugs for millions of patients suffering from obesity,” with co-pays for Medicare patients “as low as $50,” as he stated them. He noted that until now neither drug had been covered by Medicare for weight loss and that they had often cost consumers more than $1,000 per month. Lilly’s David Ricks called the day “a turning point in the fight against chronic disease,” as he stated it at the event.

Why it matters

This is the largest single drug-pricing announcement of the MFN campaign to that date — the two dominant GLP-1 makers joining Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and EMD Serono, as the President listed the earlier agreements — and it extends the pricing policy from list prices into Medicare and Medicaid coverage itself, on the Health & MAHA hub.
