What happened
President Donald Trump hosted the leaders of the Central Asian nations — the C5 — at a White House dinner on November 6, 2025, after a series of bilateral meetings in the Oval Office the same day. He thanked Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Ambassador Sergio Gor for attending, as he named them, and said the talks covered strengthening economic partnerships, improving security cooperation, and expanding overall bonds, with “a tremendous amount of trade” done that day, as he stated it.
The President said the C5 nations “sit at the historical and geographic crossroads of the world,” that previous American presidents had “neglected this region completely,” and that “one of the key items on our agenda is critical minerals,” pointing to recent agreements to broaden critical mineral supply chains. In questions, a reporter cited more than $17 billion in new Kazakhstan–U.S. deals in aviation, minerals, and digital technology, as the reporter stated the figure, and the President said a visit to Kazakhstan was “very possible,” as he answered.
Why it matters
The dinner caps the C5+1 summit day — the administration’s most concentrated Central Asia engagement of the term to that date — and puts critical minerals, the subject of the fall’s supply-chain agreements, at the center of the region’s pitch on the Foreign Policy & Defense hub.
