What happened

President Donald Trump took questions on Air Force One on October 31, 2025, en route to Florida. “We took in approximately $3 trillion over the last few days from the trips that we made,” he said, as he stated the figure. “The deal with China is going to be wonderful. I think it’s going to be long-lasting.” He said farmers were “very happy” with soybean and other purchase numbers from China “that they’ve never seen before,” as he stated them, and suggested farmers “go out and buy larger tractors and more land.”

On fentanyl, the President said he had given China “great incentives to hold down the fentanyl, get rid of it ideally,” that he had put a 20 percent penalty tariff on over it, had “a great conversation about it with President Xi yesterday,” and would “love to get rid of the other 10 percent… as soon as we see that,” as he described the arrangement. “Other than that, we haven’t cut the tariffs at all with China,” he said.

Why it matters

The gaggle is the President’s own first accounting of the Asia trip — the $3 trillion figure as he stated it, the farm-purchase expectations, and the fentanyl-tariff incentive structure described in his words before any implementing announcements.
