What happened

President Donald Trump delivered the keynote at the APEC CEO Summit luncheon in Gyeongju, South Korea, on October 29, 2025, introduced to the business leaders of the Pacific economies. He thanked host President Lee Jae Myung and introduced the officials traveling with him: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, as he presented them. “After four years of weakness, disaster really, decline, America is back and it’s back stronger than ever before,” he said.

The President reported “commitments for over $18 trillion of new investments” in under a year, against “less than a trillion” for the previous administration in four years, as he stated the figures; said the stock market had set 45 all-time highs in nine months; put second-quarter GDP growth at 3.8 percent with the next quarter “expected to be at about 4 percent”; and said “in nine months, we’ve lifted over 600,000 Americans off food stamps” with wages “rising at the fastest pace in more than 60 years,” as he stated the figures. He repeated the Toyota $10 billion plant announcement from Japan and, on interest rates, called the Federal Reserve chair “Jerome Too Late Powell” and said “he’s out of there in another couple of months,” as he stated it.

Why it matters

The APEC keynote is the administration’s economic case delivered to the Pacific’s business leadership in one speech — the investment, growth, and food-stamp figures as the President states them, with the trade team that negotiated the trip’s deals on the record beside him.
